I just got a failed delivery notification for an email I didn’t send….

OpenSeizureDetector V4.0.4 is now available on Google Play Store for anyone who signs up for ‘Beta’ Testing by using one of the following links:

• Android Device: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.org.openseizuredetector

The main change is the introduction of the Data Sharing feature that we have been promising for ages :). It is probably best if users start from a fresh installation by selecting apps->OpenSeizureDetector->Clear Data in the phone settings to make sure you use the new default settings, especially if you get unexpected results.

I have written a set of instructions, which are now available on the Installation, Set-Up and Testing page which is visible on the web site main menu. I am thinking I might make a video walk-through of the installation process if that would be useful?

It would be very helpful if existing users sign up and test this version and feed back their experiences – in particular about the Data Sharing system where the user interface is new, so I am sure there are improvements to be made to make it easier for the user to record when the system detects genuine seizures and false alarms.

Thanks to those of you who have helped with testing the draft versions of OpenSeizureDetector V4, I think it is stable enough to release to more users (A particular thank you to Jeff Parker who has done a lot of methodical testing and helped find quite a few issues which we have fixed).

The big change in this version is the introduction of the ‘Data Sharing’ feature to allow users to mark false alarms and genuine seizures, and share the data with developers / researchers to help us make better detection algorithms for future versions of OpenSeizureDetector. The main changes are:

• Introduction of Data Sharing feature, with associated user interface for reporting seizures and classifying them as real or false alarms.
• Improved the reliability of sending location in the SMS alarm messages – it should now work on the newer android versions – there are more screens asking for permission to access features to achieve this, which is a requirement of publishing it on Play Store.
• Other general reliability improvements – there should be far fewer issues with the system not shutting down properly with the new version.
• Fixed a calculation issue with the detection algorithm – it is now more sensitive so you may need a higher value of the Alarm Ratio Threshold setting – the default has been increased to 57 to account for this.

OpenSeizureDetector V4 has now been approved for release on Google Play Store (that took a lot more doing than expected!), so I intend to release it for ‘Beta’ testing sometime this weekend (once I have written some user instructions….).

This means it is available on Google Play Store, but you need to actively sign up for the new version if you would like to try it. You do this by:

It would be good if a good number of existing users try out this new version now and try signing up to the data sharing system so you can feed back how it works for you before I make it available to new users who may not know what the system does.

I will post again when I press the button to make the Beta test version live, then everyone who has signed up should get the option to upgrade via play store.
