V4.1.8 of the OpenSeizureDetector Android App will be available for beta testers shortly. This version addresses a few issues that have been identified with V4.1.7 since it was published:

• The Average Heart Rate alarm did not work correctly.
• The calculated average heart rates were not displayed to the user, and were not logged to the Data Sharing system, so could not be used to help optimise the setings
• A user reported crash in the Log Manager.
• A user reported crash when scanning for BLE devices.

These changes should not break anything else, but I would be grateful if beta testers will install it and check it runs ok for them, as I did see some odd behaviour on my phone, which went away without me doing anything, which is slightly uncomfortable.

Please let me know if you have any trouble with this update – as I said above, if I do not have any adverse reports, I will make this the public version in a couple of days.

Version 4.1 (V4.1.7) will be released on Google Play Store in a couple of days time. I recommend that all users upgrade to this version when it is available.

The main changes are:

• Improvements to the Data Sharing screen (filter out warnings from list of events, mark all unvalidated events as false alarm, add an export data function to save data to a file)
• Added an experimental Machine Learning (Artificial Intelligence) Detection Algorithm Option to improve seizure detection (this was developed using data from the Data Sharing system – thank you to everyone who has contributed so far).
• Added Polish Translations by Jacek Błoniarz-Łuczak.
• Added adaptive heart rate alarm options.
• Improved handling of notifications so the notifications do not re-initiate frequently if they do not change.
• Various bug fixes to improve stability.

Please let me know if you have any trouble with this update so we can fix any problems – either by email, or preferably raise an issue on our bug tracker.

Thank you to the users who have tested the V4.1.x releases over the past few months and reported any issues that you have experienced – this has been very useful to help get the next version stable for public release.

I have just published V4.1.6 on Play store for beta testing – I am hoping that this is the last test release and if I do not have any reports of crashes or other issues over the next few days, I will push this to be the main public version for users.
The changes in V4.1 compared to the current V4.0 releases are:

• Added Machine Learning (Artificial Intelligence) Detection Algorithm Option (CNN V0.24), which uses the data contributed by users via the Data Sharing system. Please continue to share data and most importantly mark whether events are false alarms or real seizures – we need more seizure data to make the Machine Learning version sufficiently reliable that we can switch over to using it instead of the original OpenSeizureDetector Algorithm.
• Added Polish Translations by Jacek Błoniarz-Łuczak.
• Added an Export Data function to save data to a file.
• Added adaptive heart rate alarm options.

Thank you to the users who have tested V4.1.4, and pointed out that it crashes on Android 13 devices – Sorry!

I have fixed the issue and publised it as V4.1.5 so please upgrade from V4.1.4 to V4.1.5 using Google Play Store.

A new version (V4.1.4) of OpenSeizureDetector will be available for Beta testers shortly. This adds a small number of new features that users have requested, plus a number of bugs that have been identified:

• An Adaptive Heart Rate alarm feature which means that the system will alarm if the heart rate increases or decreases rapidly, but not for slower changes, or it can alarm based on average heart rate rather than instantaneous heart rate (Thank you for the suggestions, Nicola Kehoe)
• An Export Data feature that will export locally stored heart rate, Oxygen Saturation and accelerometer data to a .csv file on the phone so users can analyse the data themselves (this may give errors if it takes too long – if so let me know and I’ll sort out a fix…)
• Improved Polish translation (by Jacek Błoniarz-Łuczak)
• Fixed O2 saturation display when using network data source
• Fixed a notification error on Android 12 and higher.
